The qualification is unit based which allows learners and employers a
choice of units:
- The health and well-being of animals
- Maintain animals within their accommodation
- Transportation of animals
- Prepare and groom dogs
- Control and restrain animals
- Provide feed and water to animals
- Provide exercise opportunities for animals
- Animal training
- Implement basic animal training programmes

In addition to the Work Based Diploma, DART offers learners the opportunity to gain further training within their area of work:
- First Aid certificate
- Visits to Trade Shows, including Crufts
- NPTC Safe Use of Veterinary Medicine
